What exactly is “Analysis paralysis”?

Analysis paralysis (or paralysis by analysis) describes an individual or group process where overanalyzing or overthinking a situation can cause forward motion or decision-making to become “paralyzed”, meaning that no solution or course of action is decided upon within a natural time frame.

I learned this new term after reading Things I’ve learned in my years as a software engineer (2021) and it really opened my eyes.

Not really because I wasn’t aware of it, just because I didn’t know how it was called and I didn’t bother to search for it.

I noticed that I suffer from this as well, over-researching, reading and not doing things.

The author suggests creating deadlines for yourself, so that’s what I’ll do.
